Those craving more Deus Ex: Human Revolution info before the game's August 23 release should consider a trip to the social media zoo that is Facebook.

Publisher Square Enix and developer Eidos Montreal have revealed a set of "over 90 exclusive updates" for the upcoming Deus Ex franchise reboot, including new videos, behind-the-scenes footage, and artwork. In order to access the new content, Facebook users must "Like" the official Deus Ex Facebook page.

The content certainly isn't as exciting as in-game rewards; however, it does strive to satiate some of the hunger felt by the game's pending release (if the game is on your radar). One piece of content--an "exclusive" wallpaper created by Deus Ex: Human Revolution art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête--had already been unlocked when the fan page hit 10,000 "Likes."

Other 'rewards' include additional wallpaper images, screenshots, concept art, and details on "Augmentations, weapons and the story."

Previously, when the Deus Ex: Human Revolution Facebook page achieved 10,000 Likes, fans were rewarded with an exclusive wallpaper created by Eidos-Montreal Art Designer Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, that recreated the imagery from the highly collectible and super-rare PAX East 2011 tee-shirt.

For some audio-based rewards, listen to the latest episode of Weekend Confirmed where the crew discussed hands-on experience with Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Everything I've seen indicates that the North American Augmented Edition does not include the score on CD, only the Steam version comes close, with it available in MP3 format. I probably won't import it, but I'll shake my fist in a non specific physical direction to represent my displeasure. Also make posts on the interwebs.

I like John Walker's take on this: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/05/16/attention-seeking-deus-ex-3-asset-nonsense/

Assets are not a gift. Assets are promotional material. They are adverts. They provide potential customers with images and videos of a forthcoming game, with the aim of encouraging them to buy the product. They are not a special treat if you’re good, nor the prize at the end of a competition.

This is like Coca Cola saying that if people will only send them enough postcards they’ll allow them to watch their next advert for Coke. It’s insanity...

It’s already insane enough that every single lunatic publisher in this ridiculous industry signs exclusive deals with magazines or websites to allow them to promote their sodding game, while punishing any other magazine or website might dare to offer them FREE ADVERTISING. But making this content -- stuff everyone just wants to look at, not complete a sponsored swim for -- the goal for the community has made a blood vessel pop in my brainium.

I actually like it. It's clever. And a handy (convenient potato) way of extending buzz until Launch in August. They're releasing concept art and supposedly some music from Michael McCann.

Sounds interesting. But I wonder if there is a upper threshold that they can reach. I mean, how many likes can a "niche" game like this really reach their goals.

        Time will tell.
