CPU Wars Again!

I've been holding out for Athlon prices to drop, and when they announced Thudnerchicken, I've waited for that too. Now I expect I'll end up waiting for DDR Ram, but...Going for an 800 mhz or better myself. You guys? I don't think the 1Ghz's will be dropping anytime soon, or at least they won't be under $900 until after Christmas. Basically, AMD and Intel crammed 1 year's worth or processors into 4 short months, and I believe it'll take awhile for things to settle.

See, DNF will 'recommend' a 600 with 256 megs (so Mr. B said alittle while ago here at the shack) but will run on a 400. I'm thinking therefore, the next generation of games to be released will run on a 600, but recommend a 800. Being that's around 1.5 to 2 years from now, I SHOULD be in the zone with everything except video cardage for the next two years with an 800.

But then, the universe is carefully balanced Chaos, so in reality anything is possible.

I think they DEVELOP on 256mb machines, aiming for a 64mb min, and 128mb recommended

600MHz processor and 256MB RAM for a fucking game?!?! What are we gonna be doing the whole time, rendering "Dinosaur" into an AVI? Ugh, this PII233 / 64MB RAM seems sooo much older now. I remember I was disappointed when Unreal came out because I could see games creeping up on my system being the baseline. :-)
