APB creator David Jones joins APB Reloaded

The creator of APB, which shut down after its developer collapsed, is now working on the free-to-play revival of his cops & robbers MMO

APB creator and Grand Theft Auto designer David Jones has been reunited with his malformed baby, signing up with Reload Productions to work on the free-to-play APB Reloaded.

"This game was my passion back when I was developing it with Realtime Worlds, and I'm extremely excited to be able to participate in fulfilling the long term vision for the title," Jones said in the announcement. "After seeing what the team has done with the game thus far, I'm certain that APB Reloaded will become the title that truly breaks new ground for online game experiences, especially with transition to a free to play model."

Publisher GamersFirst explained that Jones "will serve in an advisory role and will share his vast game design experience during critical design stages of the ongoing development of APB Reloaded."

GamersFirst picked up the cops & robbers MMO following the financial collapse and closure of original developer Realtime Worlds, which Jones founded. Reloaded is essentially the same game, but with a few extra months of development time and running under a free-to-play model rather than subscriptions.

APB Reloaded will officially enter open beta on May 18. However, you can get in a bit early by registering a GamersFirst account and signing up for the newsletter.

So the person that helped create the thing that destroyed an entire studio is now going to help another studio release the exact same thing? What could possibly go wrong? Oh, thats right, the exact same thing

Seriously they could make their money back by licensing out the character creation tools, bu the gameplay was just weak.

It was fun enough if you weren't paying a monthly fee for it.

I thought everything but the first car was good, once they had some patches in. Still needed some activated anti-cheat tech, sigh.
