Witcher 2's sexual content censored 'down under'

CD Projekt announces the censoring of sexual content for the Australian version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.

CD Projekt has announced that the Australian version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be censored a bit.

While Australia has adopted a 15+ rating for video games, The Witcher 2 occasionally offers up sex as a possible choice of reward for completing specific quests. The Australian version of the game will still include the associated quests, albeit with modified reward choices.

According to a statement released by CD Projekt, the changes to the Aussie version aren't major ones.

In order to obtain the rating in Australia, CD Projekt RED was unexpectedly obliged to make small changes to game content relating to the topic of sex as a reward. Since these changes are quite minor, especially relative to the total amount of content, they are unlikely to significantly affect the overall play experience.

It's not the first time that mild censorship has struck the series. Those who played the original game will likely remember that some of the game's sexual content (in the form of naughty trading cards the player would receive after each pantless encounter) was censored a bit for The Witcher's initial North American release.

This, I'd say. It would make more sense for them to just disable it than to go hunting through the files to remove any of the questionable content. It could also be a sly way for them to get the content they worked to create to the fans without breaking the law.

But after Hot Coffee, I wonder if the Australian board is wary of stuff like that and have wording that makes it impossible for them to do it.

Is it still the case that you can get someone in the US to "gift" you a copy and you'll get the US version? I feel like I remember people doing this for other games in the past.

Apparently if you preorder from GoG you get the uncut version.

Also wasn't the first one censored in the US before the big patch?

Question: Does the GoG or retail version come with a CD key that can be activated in Steam? I'd love to buy this overseas and use the cloud/achievements/auto update anyway, but I refuse to play it if it's censored.

No there won't be a CD key for Steam, and the game doesn't have achievements.

Well at least our games only get censored due to no R18 rating and not tougher ratings generally...

Next time Gerry Harvey cries foul over the price difference between overseas internet traders and Australian retailers he should be directed to read this HORSE SHIT and told to suck a bag of dicks.

Clear evidence here of AU bricks and mortar retailers dictating the prices of goods in this country, despite their incredible buying power right now with the strong Aussie dollar.

This is why I haven't bought a game at retail store for over 3 years.

what is the matter with these governments and censor boards ? if they can slap a R rating to movies why cant they do the same for games.. games need to be recognised as a medium of entertainment too and just as others will have a mature audience.. let them enjoy it.. with a strict implementation of regulations, you can prevent minors being sold these games.. let parents take some responsibility.. but please just for the sake of a certain section of customers, do not let the others suffer...

It's bullshit, it isnt that sex is the thing wrong with the game. It is the fact that sex is a reward for finishing an objective, all that happens now is that the offer is automatically rejected.

Lame. They should done what Rebellion did for AvP2010 and refuse to censor their game. Auschwitzralia relented and they got the unmodified game M-rated or such.

CONTENT THAT WAS CHANGED: one single scene was changed geralt was able to chose if he wanted to get laid as reward for a quest. australian classification board took offense and denied the MA15+, so cd project just took away the choice component and geralt would automatically get laid. the board gave them a green light. No content got cut or censored in broader sense.

Don't most aussies have US steam accounts anyways? Otherwise they have to wait several months before the game reaches their shores.
