Assassin's Creed Revelations announced

Ubisoft officially announced Assassin's Creed Revelations today, due for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 this November. It promises to close the book on Ezio's story, and expand the multiplayer.

Though the company wasn't exactly keeping it a trade secret, Ubisoft officially announced Assassin's Creed Revelations today. The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, with support from Ubisoft studios Annecy, Massive Entertainment, Quebec, Singapore, and Bucharest. It's set for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in November, which means earlier reports of a new packaged game this year were spot-on.

Watch that first step

Ubisoft calls this the culmination of Ezio's story, so it's our last trek with the beloved Renaissance Batman. In the game, Ezio retraces the steps of Altair to Constantinople, where Templars are gathering their forces. This goes hand-in-hand with the teaser trailers, which hinted at both Altair and Ezio. The game promises to let you "manipulate the construct of Desmond's memories," which sounds so crazy that it has to mean something. It will also bring back the multiplayer from Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, letting you shank fools with more modes, maps, and characters. "Delivering the final chapter of the Ezio trilogy is an important milestone in the Assassin’s Creed franchise for us and for our fans," said Ubisoft Montreal creative director Alexandre Amancio, in the announcement. "Assassin's Creed Revelations includes lots of new features and some significant surprises. We can’t wait to show our fans what we have in store at E3 this year." If any of those surprises include making sense of Brotherhood's ending, sign us up.

Should be interesting to see the differences in time between Ezio and Altair.

Given the way Assassin's Creed works, the game basically has to end with Ezio shacking up.

I always assumed he was shacking up with all those prostitutes in AC2.

I like the character of Ezio, and if I like this anywhere near as much as I did Brotherhood (single and multiplayer), I will be spending a ton of hours in this game.

Still doesn't peak my excitement as much as the announcement of AC3 will when it comes.

I'm dissappointed with this, I always expected every AC title to get a new setting (didn't they say so?), and AC1 had some hints that there would be a game in old China, which would be perfect. Ofcourse they hit big with 2 so they don't want to change anything.

I always thought they would move it more and more into modern times. Desmond picking up all of ezio's abilities and all.

          May 5, 2011 10:53 AM

Well, if you've been playing, that's certainly been the case - Desmond's portion of the game is consistently larger/more prominent in the three we have, and by the end of Brotherhood he's basically as skilled as Ezio was, and has to do the same sort of puzzle rooms.

            May 5, 2011 11:07 AM

True, but I meant more along the lines of you'd be roaming around as him in a city doing assassination missions and such.

They're not doing that either, anyway. I mean a couple years in this guys lifetime doesn't count.

            May 5, 2011 11:05 AM

Yes, they are. Desmond is clearly pickup up the skills. By the end of Brotherhood there's really nothing Ezio can do that he can't. And they definitely increased the amount of time spent in the modern era, even if barring the ending he's still not the main focus, going on missions, etc. They've still set the groundwork for it.

I'm dissappointed as well, I really don't care about Ezio or Altiar so playing as them AGAIN is going to be a negative for me. I was really hoping for late 1700s America or Japan, but I guess i'll just have to wait and hope for the next one :(

Given that they said that no original ip would be developed in the foreseeable future, it'd make sense that they want to stretch out the story as much as possible. This especially true if you take into account that they skip a few generations between each assassin.

          May 5, 2011 12:53 PM

A new setting isn't a new IP just like AC2 wasn't a new IP coming from AC1, and they're not skipping any generations as you play as the same guy (Ezio) as the last two games.

            May 5, 2011 10:23 PM

I meant story, as in the whole AssCreed franchise. And it's skipping quite a few generations since Ezio is not Altair's son.

Why are you talking about the old games? Clearly, in keeping the same character from AC2 in AC3, they are not skipping any generations. Hell Ezio probably won't even be older, like the guys in Splintercell or Starcraft, because game writers are that bad at their jobs.

                May 6, 2011 5:28 PM

Of course he's older. Hell, he's older in Brotherhood, and gripes when a doctor tells him men at his age don't heal well from the wounds he has. And he's got a fully grey beard in the one screenshot so far released from the new one.

I mean, fuck, if you want to complain, whatever, but at least do so based on some reality and not your completely unjustified preconceived notions.

Yeah, they do that. AC1's ending was reminiscent of Halo 2, AC2's little entry in "How to break storytelling conventions in interesting ways" was even more refined, and after AC:B they've now become masters at sadistic treatment of those of us that actually like Desmond's storyline.

I thought Ezio's bit was pretty much done after Brotherhood and seeing them milk it for another major title DOES NOT FUCKING DISAPPOINT ME AT ALL.

Ezio is so fucking awesome and is totally the strong main character that they wanted but couldn't get with Altair. Seeing Ezio grow from the beginning of Assassin's Creed 2 to the end of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood was so. fucking. rad.
