Wii classics for $20 in new Nintendo Selects line

Nintendo's launching its own budget line of software, offering vintage Wii games including The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for $20.

Nintendo is launching a budget-priced 'classics' line for the Wii on May 20, similar to the the Xbox 360's Platinum Hits range and the Greatest Hits line on PlayStation 3, not to mention 'tendo's own Player's Choice series for earlier consoles.

The Nintendo Selects line will initially offer The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers, and Wii Sports for $20 each. While some might not be to your taste, it's a range with broad appeal.

Wii Sports has traditionally been bundled with the Wii console itself, but this will change on May 20 with the launch of a new, cheaper $150 bundle containing Mario Kart Wii instead.

Rumours of such a budget line were circulating last month, though Super Smash Bros. Brawl was then included with the supposed launch lineup and Wii Sports was not. It wouldn't at all be surprising if Brawl were made a Nintendo Selects title further down the line, though.

The European launch lineup for Nintendo Selects is slightly different, offering WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Mario Strikers Charged, Wii Sports, and Animal Crossing: City Folk. The Eurotanian launch of Selects will also come on May 20, with pricing ultimately determined by retailers.

I never actually played Twilight Princess. Is it still worth playing at $20?

I am assuming everyone's going to say YES since no one ever says anything bad about Zelda/Mario games but I figured I'd be certain.

Just being a bit jesful. It may not look cutting edge, and like pretty much all Wii games it could do with a higher resolution to reduce aliasing, but I very much disagree with the assessment that Twilight Princess is an ugly game.

Ugly animation, ugly textures, ugly blocking areas. Good art design to make up for it. The animations (especially for the introduction) make me cringe.

All that said, the game is good and totally worth playing provided you are not a graphics whore.

I guess the cargo carrying horse has some pretty stilted walking, but in general it doesn't remind me of Morrowind in the animation department, and I guess we have totally different ideas of what ugly textures are.

Midna was pretty good imo. But yea the animation pales to WW =/

The sky temple looked pretty sick though.

It's a Zelda game, and it's good, it's not as good IMO as the OoT or MM but it's still at the peak of the genre.

It was a pretty good Zelda game I thought, but then NOTHING comes close to being as good as ALTTP or even LA. I've learned to accept mediocrity in Zelda games since then and take them each on their own merits.

Occasionally the bitterness wells up in me when I start trying to figure out why Nintendo refuses to revisit their best Zelda formula (non-gimmicky birds eye view Zelda)

I'm really hoping the Super Wii has an update to LoZ: 4-swords that's a bit less mario like and in HD.

see I think most of these game boy ports with the exception of LA are gimmicky. I mean, come on...a TRAIN? Not to mention timed ANYTHING makes me absolutely crazy.

Its pretty good overall once you get past the 8 hour tutorial/narrative intro. I'll say this, it has some of the most spectacular dungeons off this generation (design wise). The water temple in particular is really well thought out and fun to play through.

I really enjoyed the last 3 dungeons the most I think. Still hate water dungeons, but TP had the best one for what it was.

I could never get into the first Zelda, but I probably came in too late. Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda I really spent time in, A Link to the Past was the second.

It can't be me that thinks this 'is' the reimagining of ocarina of time for modern era.

Sure it does get a bit tedious and long (they got a few more years of dev time), but the scope and overall production value seems to be something worth playing through at least once in your life.

Oh yea. Those fucking chicken baby things. Now that's messed up.

I'm confused what you mean? Do you think it wasn't selling at $50? I'm sure they would have dropped the price earlier if that wasn't the case. Wii Music is $30, they're clearly willing to drop the price when a game doesn't sell.

No, I'm saying I hate it and they should've dropped a bunch of the first party titles to $30 or less years ago.

I played a bit both and greatly preferred the Wii controls. Maybe the waggle worked as intended on me. That game isn't very combat heavy anyway, and aiming arrows with a pointer is very fun.
