When Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword launched on PC yesterday, the medieval warfare sandbox RPG was accompanied by a demo. You can grab the 842MB installer here at Shacknews.

Developed by Sich Studio with series creator TaleWorlds, Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword is a standalone spin-off which began life as a mod. Unlike the previous Mount & Blade games, it lets you get tooled up with muskets and rifles as well as traditional swords, pikes and other pointy implements.

The whole thing's supposedly based upon Henryk Sienkiewicz's 1884 historical novel With Fire and Sword, surely making it the thinking man's murder simulator.

The downloadable edition of Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword launched yesterday, priced at $15. You can find it at Steam, Direct2Drive, Impulse, and other digital distributors. A retail release will follow "shortly," publisher Paradox Interactive says, with different contents and prices in different regions.

Firearms will ruin your day in this version. It seems like every bandit in the game has a gun, and it only takes 2-3 hits before you're dude is down for the count.
