Catherine 'Love is Dead' edition packs pants

An $80 deluxe 'Love Is Dead' edition of Catherine packs oddities include boxer shorts and an "alluring" pillow case into a pizza box.

Given how bizarre Atlus's story-heavy puzzle-platformer Catherine is, the announcement of an equally strange deluxe edition should come as no surprise. Yet, somehow, it still does.

The $79.99 'Love Is Dead' edition of Catherine will be packaged into a pizza box 'from' the in-game bar Stray Sheep, containing other curious gubbins blending game and reality. You'll receive:

A pair of polka dot boxers like the ones worn by Vincent during his manic nightmares, Vincent's "Empty Hearts" T-shirt worn by Catherine in the game, and a pillow case decorated with an alluring image of Catherine, a nod to the pillow tucked under Vincent's arm as he frantically races to escape the terrors that pursue him.

Just what you've always wanted, no?

If you don't fancy coughing up an extra $20 for Catherine goodies, however, Atlus is offering pre-order bonuses with either edition. Slapping your cash down in advance will get you a 36-page art book filled with character designs, along with a soundtrack CD of 11 remixed tracks.

Catherine is scheduled to launch for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on July 26.

I like when companies tries to come up with creative stuff for their Collector's Editions. :)

I will probably pick this game up when it comes out (normal version though), mainly because I want a new Persona game after watching the Persona 4 Endurance Run on giantbomb, and I'm hoping this will be something odd like that. :)

Can anyone answer an important question I have about this game? Are there actual boobs in this game, because most of the screenshots I have seen do not indicate it. Yes, it is a deciding factor in purchasing.

With a "CERO: C" rating in Japan (15 and up), it's unlikely. Localization ratings aren't out yet, but Atlus will probably aim for the "T for Teen" in NA, and "PEGI 16" in EU regions for sales boosts. This means no boobs.

I'm playing the Japanese version; they cut it close, but keep it classy. Though one of the monsters may slightly cross the line (spoilers; shackmessage me).

Now that I'm not posting from a phone, I can answer in a bit more detail.

There is no nudity in the game (I'm on Day 8, which is about 6 or 7 hours of playtime IIRC, but I haven't finished it yet). However, there are mature themes, and they do go right up to the line. But no naked breasts.

Shouldn't this be the "Love is Over" edition? The name comes from the death screen in the game.

I hope Atlus leaves "Love is Over" and "You got a mail!" in the US version.
