Retailers quietly drop Wii price

Rumors have been circling Nintendo for the past week, and now it seems like at least a few of them are coming to a head. Various retailers including GameStop, Amazon, Target, and Best Buy, have uniformly dropped the Wii bundle price to $169.99.
The bundle includes the Wii system, Wii Remote Plus, Wii Sports, and Wii Sports Resort. Wal-Mart, one of the largest US retailers, is retaining its $199 price as of this time.
Nintendo hasn't announced an official price drop, but it did announce today that both Wii Sports Resort and Wii Party will get price drops to $39.99 starting on April 25.
We recently saw rumors that Nintendo would be dropping the price of the Wii to $150 in mid-May. These retailer drops could be preparing for the official drop from Nintendo. These various cuts would spur on sales ahead of a rumored announcement around E3 2011 of the next Nintendo console, said to be planned for release in 2012.
