The first episode of the Mortal Kombat web series is now available and it's worlds better than the first two feature films released in the 90s.

The first episode of the nine-part Mortal Kombat web series is now available for your viewing pleasure. Clocking in at just under 13 minutes, the first slither of Mortal Kombat: Legacy already looks more promising than the previous two live-action efforts put to film put together. (At least if you're looking for a more serious approach to the universe.)

Mortal Kombat: Legacy stars Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica) as Stryker, Jeri Ryan (Star Trek Voyager) as Sonya Blade, and Michael Jai White (Spawn) as Jackson Briggs. The series is being directed by Kevin Tancharoen, boss of such thrilling epics as The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll and Britney Spears Live from Miami. The series spawned from a film pitch video released by Tancharoen during the summer of 2010.

The WB-produced series is meant to whet the appetite of gamers who are anticipating the Mortal Kombat series' M-Rated debut on current generation consoles. Mortal Kombat from NetherRealm Studios launches on April 19.

So underwhelming. The original 'fan' project was so much better than this shit. 12 minutes, 4 of which is end credits. Tons of useless exposition and slomo.

Like 30 seconds of actual martial arts between Kano and Jax. No over the top WTF gore.

I thought it was an epic win.. given the budget and the attention to detail I doubt you could do better. This is what Mortal Kombat is about.

        I have to agree.

Not being a huge fan of Mortal Kombat myself this was rather good. I will definitely be keeping up with this and for the budget that they had it was pretty well done.

Looks decent. Has a solid atmosphere to it.

Some of the fight choreography was a bit weak, but it's got potential. =]
