Sniper Elite 2 announced for 2012

A sequel to the cult hit Sniper Elite is on the way to consoles in 2012, promising "the most authentic WW2 sniping experience ever."

Cult favourite World War 2 stealthy sniping game Sniper Elite is getting a sequel by the name of Sniper Elite V2 in 2012, publisher 505 Games announced today. Creator Rebellion is once again handling development.

"Guaranteed that the sequel will be the most authentic WW2 sniping experience ever," said 505 managing director Ian Howe in the announcement, "not just in terms of weapon ballistics, but also in delivering the heart-pulsing tension of those do or die moments where one shot really does matter."

No solid details have been revealed, and all we have to look at is one solitary screenshot. It looks, unsurprisingly, like a video game where you snipe people in WW2.

Platforms have not been confirmed, with publisher 505 Games saying only that Sniper Elite V2 is headed to "the current generation of consoles." Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 seem the likely targets. Rebellion also often makes PC editions of its games.

Rebellion has had an unfortunate run of subpar games lately, including Rogue Warrior and Aliens vs. Predators. Hopefully Sniper Elite V2 will help the English developer break out of its funk. It's also working on NeverDead, a curious post-Apocalyptic action game starring a wise-cracking immortal who's prone to losing his limbs.

Why disregard? The article doesnt mention anything about releasing it for PC platform (and I also read the same sentiment from Joystiq). The only confirmed platform right now is XBOX360 and PS3. Seems like we either need to wait longer for the PC or maybe its not coming out...

However, if this game turns out to be as subpar as Rebellion's latest games, then no loss I guess..I just wish they will come back and remake the classic (like Evil Genius) again and make it good.

I didn't mean disregard a PC version (I wouldn't play it otherwise) I just read this "Rebellion also often makes PC editions of its games." and took that as maybe a glimmer of light for a PC version

Interesting, didn't expect a sequel to this. Anyone finish it? It was fun at first but then I just got bored and gave up.

No way! The first game was awesome. It did get a bit tedious at times, but overall was really fun.

I would be pretty excited about this but judgeing by Rebellion's recent titles I can only imagine that this will be a stain on the otherwise highly regarded name of Sniper Elite.

Yeah, it's like they're busy fucking over all their previously good games. Last fun game was Rogue Trooper, and that's controversial praise given that some hated it.
