Sniper Elite 2 announced for 2012
by Alice O'Connor, Apr 06, 2011 2:00pm PDTCult favourite World War 2 stealthy sniping game Sniper Elite is getting a sequel by the name of Sniper Elite V2 in 2012, publisher 505 Games announced today. Creator Rebellion is once again handling development.
"Guaranteed that the sequel will be the most authentic WW2 sniping experience ever," said 505 managing director Ian Howe in the announcement, "not just in terms of weapon ballistics, but also in delivering the heart-pulsing tension of those do or die moments where one shot really does matter."
No solid details have been revealed, and all we have to look at is one solitary screenshot. It looks, unsurprisingly, like a video game where you snipe people in WW2.
Platforms have not been confirmed, with publisher 505 Games saying only that Sniper Elite V2 is headed to "the current generation of consoles." Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 seem the likely targets. Rebellion also often makes PC editions of its games.
Rebellion has had an unfortunate run of subpar games lately, including Rogue Warrior and Aliens vs. Predators. Hopefully Sniper Elite V2 will help the English developer break out of its funk. It's also working on NeverDead, a curious post-Apocalyptic action game starring a wise-cracking immortal who's prone to losing his limbs.
