Sony has delayed its PlayStation Rewards program, and may be nixing the idea entirely. Kotaku reports that an e-mail sent to Rewards beta testers announced the delay, and doesn't sound entirely optimistic about its future in general.

"Based on what we learned, we have decided the program is not ready to roll out to the public in April as originally planned," the e-mail read. "But rest assured, we will continue to thank loyal and devoted customers like you with innovative offerings. Thanks again for your participation and feedback."

Though Sony promises to thank customers, the indefinite delay implies that it may not be through the planned PlayStation Rewards program. If the company is still planning to roll it out, it may not be for some time since the e-mail was hesitant to give a new launch window. A PlayStation representative told Joystiq that the company "will be refocusing our efforts in the near future to further developing PlayStation Plus and our other network services."

PlayStation Rewards was revealed last October, promising prizes like avatars, themes, and sweepstakes as incentives for filling out surveys and participating in Home, the PS Store, and forums. In December, the beta program rolled out Quests, which gave Rewards progress for fulfilling specific tasks.
