Shack PSA: Weekend PC digital deals

Cod Blops, Heroes of Newerth, F1 2010, The Witcher, Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition and more are on sale this weekend. Come see!

It's Friday, it's the Internet, and this is video games. You know what that means--a vast and delicious spread of discounts at digital distributors of PC games. There are no real stand-out mega-bargains this weekend, though there are a good number of pleasing discounts on satisfying games. Heroes of Newerth, heaps of respectable racing games including F1 2010 and Split/Second, The Witcher, the Ultimate Edition of Dragon Age: Origins, R.U.S.E., and even the rarely-discounted Call of Duty: Black Ops are all going cheap. Lead and Gold: Gangs of the West is going beyond a mere discount by running one of Steam's much-loved 'free weekends.' You can download and play for free over the weekend and, if it strikes your fancy, it'll only cost $2.50 to keep forever. Plus, once again, Direct2Drive is offering 20% off everything in its catalogue. Here's our full selection of this week's deals:

I think everyone has quit playing it by now. Most of the people on my friends list only have a few points out of 20 on their licenses.

I'm holding out hope that Shift 2 Unleashed next week will be good, but that's almost be come a sim track day racer, not the same as the old NFS. Hence why they dropped the NFS.

I love(d) it. About 75 hours in and I'm kind of done with it now, but the multiplayer was great great fun. The cops vs racers element really worked well.

As long as you aren't looking for a sim, this is probably the best arcade racer done in quite some time IMO.

Unfortunately, even with the DLC that just released, the playerbase for multiplayer is dwindling. Buddy and I still get on and race once or twice a week in the evening.

I had fun with it on Xbox. It's not a bad game at all. It just feels a touch shallow to me as far as content at times. The multi is fun especially when you have four bandits trying to get away with four cops on the chase. Most fun in the game right there.

      Are shackers still playing HoN?

I had a ton of fun during beta, but I just couldn't stomach the abusive community and stopped playing shortly before release. But for $10, I wouldn't mind picking it up if there are still shackers playing (assuming they're a little more friendly than the typical HoN asshat).

        Oh well. :(

Would getting CODBLOPS for just the SP be worth it? I probably won't put more than a couple hours into MP.

For 45$ i'd say no. Like all of the COD series its long term value is in MP.

Oh screw it, I'm going to buy it anyways. I'd have spent as much on drinks if I went out tonight. Thanks for the advice though.

I would pay only $20 for the single IMO. It's as rheroux said it's all about the MP.

Interesting really. It seemed to take much much longer for the other CoD games to go on sale.

Hmm, 20% off of everything at D2D. That's making Shogun 2 mighty tempting... It's a Steamworks game right?

Is it worth getting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with Battlefield 3 being so close to release? I'm tempted to try CODBLOPS but I enjoy the team aspects of Battlefield games.

Good God, yes. Excellent game. Single player is good, multiplayer is great.

I'm waiting for a Steam bundle with Vietnam, myself. Already own the set on 360.

Its fun, certainly $5 of fun. Especially if you like the IP. I doubt you'll finish it, but the swarm game is supposed to be fun, too.

I enjoyed it. I think I got it for $10 back at Christmas. It's fairly linear and it took me awhile to get used to the fact that the marine can't jump (predators/aliens can - probably a balance decision) so you feel like a bit of a lumbering tank while moving around. But the production values are pretty high and it was perfectly enjoyable for the story/action.

Strategy First has a "Take No Prisoners" bundle pack for $70 instead of $224 right now. The thing is, using the coupon code from their newsletter (TNPSALE) drops the price down to $10. That's $10 for 20 games, including Sacred Gold, Jagged Alliance 2, Disciples 2, Combat Mission 1 & 2, Strategic Command...

(I have a blog - dddeals.blogspot.com - where I track digital distribution discounts as they happen.)
