Their impressions of the hardware and some of the launch games fill most of the opening Whatcha Been Playin? section but there's much more to come includine Crysis 2, Shogun 2, Mortal Kombat, and Patapon 3. Shacknews's own Jeff Mattas and good friend of the show Christian Spicer round out the cast this week and brought their A game for the Warning where the group covers game criticism, behaviorism as applied to discovery in games, and more. A song that Dr. Dre, T-Green, Snoop, and he collaborated on and recorded together. David Jr. recently relocated to Los Angeles in an attempt to get some recognition for his latest creations. The key feature is that they're self-contained.
I would wager that a lot more handheld gaming takes place in the home that people might suspect. There's a convenience to the form factor of the system, playing Patapon while lying in bed, or training one's Pokemon with the TV on in the background, running time trials in Sonic Rush while in the bathroom, even just taking the thing from one room to another without having to fiddle with cables and shit to get it to work.
As far as landing the casuals, however, Nintendo really needs to nail it with the E-shop. By that I mean it needs to have as few hoops as possible to get connected (I've had plenty issued trying to get my DSi online), the store UI needs to be user friendly, and Nintendo has to make sure that people can weed out the quality games from the shovelware. In this regard, iOS and Android both have the upper hand, and if the Wii and DSi shop channels are any indication, this is going to be Nintendo's biggest hurtle.
I don't think the system is going to fail, Nintendo is not in the business of selling hardware at a loss, whether that means jacking the price, cutting costs in the tech department, or both. As for software, I'm sure first party stuff will do fine, but third party content is maybe a bit of a "wait and see."
