X-COM creator Julian Gollop demonstrates the Nintendo 3DS turn-based tactics title, which he's producing, in a lengthy new trailer.

One of the more interesting titles in the Nintendo 3DS launch lineup is also one of the most unassuming--Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars. Rather than the uninspiring cash-in one might expect, it's a turn-based tactics title game produced by Jullian Gollop, creator of the much-loved X-COM series.

Gollop introduces the game in a new nine-minute gameplay trailer, walking us all through one of its later missions.

Published by Ubisoft and developed by its Sofia studio, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars launches this week alongside the 3DS.

The X-COM brand is currently being used by 2K for its largely-unrelated first-person shooter XCOM.

Perhaps Jullian wants to tell us why it appears so, so watered down? =(

Yeah. It was X-COM with no base building.

It was fun, but very slow moving (mostly the actual game speed). I'd strongly recommend playing it in an emulator so that you can make use of the "fast forward" key. Makes the game a HELL of a lot more enjoyable.

The video is presented as if to someone to hasn't played a turn-based strategy before, which is scary.

The gameplay looks very, very simple.

      I disappoint.

Looks quite similar to Advance Wars to me... except the special powers are on the units instead of the commander

I would buy an iOS version of this game.

Where has Gollop been all these years? I also didn't realize that projectile weapons could only be used in short range.

I wouldn't call it largely unrelated. Perhaps "experimentally."

It's in a completely different genre, using a completely different fiction, and made by completely different people.

at least hes sticking to the genre he likes. He will narrate his suicide when the new X-com drops.

Julian should somehow get involved with the people responsible for making the UFO series and basically blast away all the shit they did previously with that series and start over making an X-COM clone with damn near identicle aliens but with different names.

I guess I might actually buy a 3DS. I'm thinking that they had to tack on the Ghost Recon brand in order to make a turn-based game marketable.
