Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, Xbox Live's director of programming, has revealed that the XBLM "Deal of the Week" promotion will launch on Tuesdays rather than Mondays from now on. The change was revealed via Major Nelson's Twitter account.

Currently, the weekly Xbox Live Marketplace promotion begins on Mondays and expires a week later. With the new schedule, promotions will launch on Tuesdays and run until the following Tuesday.

For this week's "Deal of the Week," Xbox Live Gold Members can grab Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode One for the discounted price of 800MS Points ($10, down from $15). And, if you were following along with the news above, the sale ends on Tuesday, March 29.

Was there any reason given for the change?

There was not. But I think it works out better. Sometimes I'll mean to get something and forget about it over the weekend and by Monday morning it's done.

This is what I thought too. People either hear about a sale late (once people get a chance to buy/play over the weekend I imagine) or just don't get around to it before the weekend is over.

It seems most releases happen on Tuesday so maybe this is timed that way for the same reason?

I've never figured out why games release on Tuesdays anyway. Wouldn't it make more sense to launch on a Saturday - when most people are off work and can make an easy trip to the store to pick up new releases - and then spend the weekend playing them?

I order most of my games online, so I can't say it's ever really bothered me much - it's just one of those things that has always puzzled me.

mail doesn't get delivered here on the weekend unless you pay extra to somewhere like UPS for a weekend delivery.

I'm not sure why Tuesdays are so popular; that's when DVD movies get released too. Nintendo often does Sunday releases though. Of course, the retailers all get the items earlier in the week and just have to hold them until Sunday since Nintendo will put a street date on the cases. I assume most publishers let retailers put their games out the day they receive them. Tuesdays are also the days PlayStation Network games get released so maybe Microsoft wants to try and get some XBLA news in there at the same time sites are posting about PSN games. Seems unlikely but PSN games used to be released on Thursdays while XBLA have always been Wednesdays. I always figured Sony moved their releases up so they could get some of the same games a day earlier.

Yeah but a lot of the times the stores get the games before release date anyways.

If they release on Tuesday, people getting it shipped to them can get it by the weekend.

Plus, it's kind of like movies. If people are already going to be at the store on the weekend shopping around, why not release a game on a slow day so that you can easily deal with the people rushing in just to pick up a new title?

It's only in the US that this happens, too. When I lived in the UK, the release dates were mostly Fridays.

Current lack of USPS delivery on Saturdays doesn't explain why the Tuesday release happens, since it's only been recently that Saturday delivery stopped.

I always go for the cheapest shipping method anyway, it doesn't bother me that I don't have the game on launch day to save a couple of bucks.
