Magicka PvP teased

Publisher Paradox Interactive has dropped hints that PvP functionality may come to Magicka once the Vietnam expansion is finished.

[Update 10:00 a.m.] A Paradox spokesperson has confirmed that PvP is the next "big update" after Vietnam. We won't know more details until after Vietnam is released, but at least we know for certain that it's coming.

[Original Story] Paradox Interactive has dropped a none-too-subtle hint that it may be adding player-vs-player functionality to Magicka. In a series of tweets, the publisher solicited achievement ideas, then pitched one for defeating a Paradox team member. "Wait, we need PvP for that...we better build it right after #MagickaVietnam then," said a follow-up tweet.

While it's far from an official announcement, the series of tweets certainly seems to imply that Paradox has plans for PvP. We'll probably see more details of when to expect the feature as we get closer to the release of the Magicka Vietnam expansion later this spring. In the meantime, we've contacted Paradox for confirmation.

That's the last thing the campaign needs (given how easily it is to do it accidentally) but could be really fun as a separate mode.

Are these summary posts something new? Are you doing these voluntarily?

They've been going on since shortly after Nushack went live. Eventually they'll be in the root posts.

I have a GM script that uses info from the RSS feed to populate these root posts with the description from the RSS feed.

      magicka just updated on steam

      Changelist(1.3.5.6)-21th March
      • Another safety has been added to prevent gamer crash on startup.
      • Fixed item stuck in air when detached from death characters.
      • Decreased camera shake to one third of its original strength.
      • Fixed incorrect trailing glyph in menu leaderboards.
      • Fixed campaign chapter transition crash issue.
      • Game should no longer appear to be modded unless it is actually modded.

      Known issues
      • Beta testers of Vietnam will not be able to play challenges with regular players, regular players will also crash if beta tester tries to host using Vietnam content and regular players join.
      • Network uplink bandwidth, while improved, can be demanding.
      • Steam attempts to install XNA framework every time game is launched or rare occasion.
      • Characters can in rare cases fall through the level collision mesh, this is due to lag or poor framerate. Many general network improvements and general optimization will reduce this risk.
      • The game may appear to be stuttering even though framerate is good.

PvP may not be in the game yet, but backstabbing is.

It's a buggy but fun indy game. Online campaign co-op, a magic fusion system, and a good deal of comedy.

I can't imagine this being fun at all considering how easy it is to gibs someone and how much time it takes to move and cast spells. You'll just spawn and die continually.
