The PC edition of Uber Entertainment's Monday Night Combat will be free for all to play this weekend on Steam, Valve has announced. As if that weren't splendid enough, there's also 33% off its price, for those who take a shine to it.

The weekend's a long one, having begun today and running until 1pm PST on Monday. The discount is now live and Monday Night Combat has appeared in everyone's Steam library, for the duration of the weekend, so simply install to start playing. Should you somehow not already have a Steam account, sign up for one and it'll be there.

With the 33% discount, Monday Night Combat is down to $10.04 for a single copy, or $30.12 for a four-pack to share with your chums.

The spawn of Team Fortress 2 and Defense of the Ancients, Monday Night Combat is a multiplayer class-based shooter masquerading as a cheery futuristic blood sport. It was originally released on Xbox Live Arcade in August 2010, then came to PC in January.

See you in the arena, fight fans. Hiyooo!

I missed last night's ShackBattle, but can I assume we will have one tonight or some time this weekend to introduce other shackers to this game who don't already have it?

      Anyone wanna go in on a 4 pack? 30.12 for 4 = 7.53 each

This is a fun game, and definitely worth your time to check out while it's free.

I'm enjoying it. It's fairly well balanced (not perfect), but one really good, or one REALLY BAD player can ruin it.

Beautifully written, Alice. Finest of your posts yet.

Definitely worth giving it a go.

Just as a warning though, with 6v6 max teams, individual skill in shooters matters a hell of a lot. You'll likely get crushed by the same players as long as they are on the server.

Hope you can get a nice bump in sales to help the community. Seems to be getting progressively smaller over the last few weeks.

Thanks! We're working aggressively to grow the community. We're already seeing a massive boost in the number of concurrent players and the free weekend just went live. It'll be fun to watch the charts over the weekend. We also had a new map playable at PAX. I don't know when that will be finished and released but it shouldn't be too terribly long.

Any chance you guys might rework Spunky Cola?

That map is so bad :(

I definitely look forward to seeing the new map. Going to be a bit weird to have to manually spawn all the bots though...

On the new map bots spawn at their regularly scheduled time, there are just additional bots (on a timer) that can manually be spawned by players in their base. These include the regular bots (blackjack, slimbot, and, on very long timer, jackbot) as well as special bots (bouncers, buzzers, gremlins, scramblers, gap shots).

We've made various map adjustments since the game launched on Xbox but that's not my area of work so I have no idea what's planned.

The review I saw had the spawners in the middle of the map for all the bots (free I think), has that changed? Or maybe just a PAX demo feature?

There are multiple incorrect accounts of the map out there. I'm not sure how that happens to be honest. The bot spawners are currently just outside your spawn area and are free of charge but on a timer. The length of the timer and cost to spawn is still changing based on playtests.
