Five minutes of Fez

A full five-and-a-bit minutes of Fez are shown off in a new gameplay trailer for the charming, world-spinning, indie platformer.

Indie developer Polytron has released a delightful new trailer for Fez, showing off a full five-and-a-bit minutes from the version that was recently demonstrated at PAX East 2011.

As you'll see, Fez is a 2D platformer set in a 3D world, which players can rotate to discover and create new routes through levels. What may seem an uncrossable chasm from one angle might vanish when viewed from a new perspective. It all looks quite clever and more than a wee bit lovely.

Fez is due to be released via Xbox Live Arcade some time this year. Polytron is co-publishing it with Warp developer Trapdoor.

Same here...I think it was announced the same time DNF was, like 20 years ago.

Great, another game on my waiting list now. I dont like these months and years of building hype for a game, just give it to me!

The perspective mechanic looks to be similar to Echochrome on PSP/PS3.

I hope the full game turns out better. I was quite let down by Echochrome. Between the stupid time limit and the level design, many levels end up being either races, or reflex games rather than actual puzzlers..

The thing that bugged me was that you couldn't controll the movement of the guy, he was always moving forward and you had to quickly manipulate perspective before he got to the point of no return. The game would me more fun if it let me move him forward myself when I was done aligning stuff.

I look forward to reading Alice's comments and extracting her witticisms. I always picture her typing in latex gloves, which she promptly peels off and discards after submitting her articles.

god I can't wait for this game. I played it at pax. The starting area feels pretty rich and there's a lot of really cute short bits of chatter from the characters. that beginning part kinda reminds me of what paper mario used to be like before it got all insipid and long-winded.
