Sure, Batman: Arkham City may be chock full of references for fans of comic lore, but did you know Batman can also punch bad guys in the face? Rocksteady chose to remind us of this important bat-fact with a gameplay debut trailer. It shows off just how adept Batman is at taking down swaths of thugs (answer: very), along with the improved cape gliding maneuvers.

If that trailer doesn't quench your bat-thirst, check out Xav's GDC preview and interview with marketing game manager Dax Ginn. Batman is set to start hunting hapless Arkham lackeys on October 18.

I see new takedownsyle: 2, 3 at once, also in silent takedown
New fly system where you can drop to gain speed and fly higher again.

Licensed comic book hero games have taken a large nose dive in quality ever since spider-man 2, although web of shadows wasn't horrible, friend or foe certainly killed the series of good spider-man games. Arkham Asylum is hopefully the first in a bunch of good comic book games, but I'm more concerned about where rocksteady could go once these Arkham games become stale. The only other game under their belt is Urban Chaos and that didn't exactly show the kind of greatness that Arkham Asylum did, are they just really amazing at making Batman styled games? Will they become the go to company to work on Comic Licensed games?

There is no doubt in my mind that Arkham City will be great, but can they make games that aren't Batman focused?

Well, seeing as they were bought out by Warner Brothers for the soul purpose of making video games out of DC comics characters; that just might be what they're doing.

Why not? Batman: AA gets too much credit for being a great Batman game when in reality, it's a great game. Strip away all the Batman characters and world, and everything about that game mechanically would still be awesome.

It is an awesome game made even more awesome by the presence of Batman twisting people's legs into pretzels.

No argument, but I'm saying it's still a damn great game, Batman or not. It's very well put together.

Arkham City looks extremely detailed, so much that it would almost be a sin to play this game on a console for fear of losing all the little details in all their high res glory or things appearing to look washed out. I'm pretty excited for this game and if things continue to look up, this will definitely be a purchase.

Maybe I've just been spoiled by the Dead Island and Stalker:CoP complete trailers, or maybe I shouldn't expect anything more from a AAA release than oddly cut gameplay footage to a song that someone at some point liked, but I feel like this trailer is garbage, The game will be amazing, and the gameplay itself looks great, but this trailer just isn't good; the footage they chose, the music, they do nothing for me. Of course I'm still going to buy it on Day 1 but this really doesnt get me excited like the aformentioned trailers did.

The music wasn't very appealing but the trailer did demonstrate the games fantastic looking atmosphere and what appears to be a fairly open looking game. Will be looking forward to more.

Did you check out the trailer before this that was all about Hugo Strange. That sounds more up your (Crime) alley.

Yes, that was definitely better than this, they put a lot more work into it and it actually made you care about the game, whereas this trailer is basically saying: "Hey here’s gameplay to some song!" I’d love to see more gameplay footage but they need to do it right. I honestly wouldn't mind just seeing 2 minutes of straight gameplay footage, as I believe the quality of the game will speak for itself and there's no need for quick cuts and licensed music.

Where's the pre-order button. They totally did right by bringing back Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill. And Arleen Sorkin too. Nice.

Looks a lot like the first batman. I hope the joker is in it, his dialogue made the first game. I'll buy this in the steam sale I reckon.
