EA gave a first look at the visual improvements for NCAA Football 12 today with the unveiling of the game's official blog. Art director Jean Adams outlined the High Dynamic Range (HDR) rendering, and showed off a few of its impressive results. "It allows us to preserve contrast without losing the details that make the game look realistic," Adams wrote. "In previous versions, playing in the shadows made gameplay appear dark and muddy, which really killed the quality of our game. This was especially noticeable when playing in huge stadiums like The Swamp or Death Valley, where at certain times of day shadows cover most of the field making action hard to see." Other tidbits to add more realism include some new gear, dreadlocks, more detailed crowds, and grass that actually looks like grass. "The field surface has looked like a tennis court for way too long, with the addition of 3D grass our game looks more photo realistic and immersive," Adams said. It also apparently means that the players shave their legs.

It's kinda comical to here them talk about HDR when it has been around for awhile now. It's like they suddenly just found some new graphic technology. Hasn't HDR been around since DX9 2 years ago and NOW! EA is deciding to finally utilize it? lol...

How many games that used it in the last few years ever, if not constantly, had 22 physics and AI driven agents on screen at once?

Hmmm. Not sure about 22 players, but most everyday first person shooters since HL2 has had HDR in some shape of form. I just find it humorous that EA has started to implement it that it's just all new graphic feature. Turn on a PC game in the last 2 years and HDR has been there and done that.

I guess you didn't get my point. Doing it in the context of that many actors on screen is a new graphics feature. Every graphical enhancement needs to be viewed through the lenses of everything else going on. It'd be like knocking Oblivion for not having HDR because HL2 did, it's a bit different doing it in environments the size of Oblivion vs HL2

All i'm saying is that this isn't something "new" ... It's been around for awhile. But EA is sounding like it's a new feature never done before. Sad to say it isn't... Considering no one can do NFL games because of their deal with the NFL has shut down most to all attempts at football games. Plus you're confusing outdoor environments with a fixed arena. There is not a lot of views from a football arena. It's just funny that they have had this feature available for a long time with the DX9 feature set. This is how they get suckers to purchase their game every year. Add a graphic enhancement each year and BAM! New game...

This post gave me a headache. You are assuming too much on every front.

I'm not confusing anything. You're projecting your hatred into a bunch of strange assumptions that I don't see. Where did EA say HDR has never been done before?

Nevermind, you are obviously not getting the whole gist of the video. Just want xpogox said. EA is projecting HDR as their next feature in their title. If you listen to the video they are making it sound it's something new and exciting. Even though this feature is 2 years old at least. It's not like they couldn't have done this in years past. It's just something to sell to people as "new" ... I guess console users would consider that is 2 years old as exciting...

I would love to know why you think the first thing they're showing is THE feature for the year. Do you think Madden's main selling point this year is surprise onside kicks?

And it is new and exciting, for NCAA and sports fans. Sure they could have done this in years past. They would've then opted not to do some other feature then, it's called trade offs and resourcing. Welcome to videogames.

                    I'm done herping with you.

It's not called trade offs and resourcing. It's called milking people by rehashing the same ole shit and adding a new feature here or there and packing it up and selling it to you for $60.00. What they are showing could be easily a DLC addition. But then again. EA are counting on people like yourself that will plop down any type of money for a rehashed same ole game with minor updates. Considering there are no rosters due to NCAA regulations. This will in no doubt be "the feature" to get you to purchase this years edition.

Enjoy feeding the gravy train for EA. If more smart people would follow suit to what happend with their NBA games then maybe we would get some actual improvements to consider a purchase.

You obviously have no idea about the ups and downs of Madden's quality and sales from 2006 to now, the resulting new development team, or just about anything else. Since 2003 I've bought Madden once (Madden 10 since they finally emphasized quality after the debacle that was the 06-09 era) and never NCAA. Ugh, stop posting about this.

what was the last legit feature Madden or NCAA charged for? Cheats and player boosts hardly count. Last I checked they added a whole new game mode (Madden Ultimate Team) as a free update in Madden 10

Scouting, blue chip recruits, all sorts of bs in NCAA. Stuff they took out of previous incarnations.

They are not cheats if you have to pay for them.
