Mech combat FPS 'Hawken' announced
by Alice O'Connor, Mar 10, 2011 6:45am PSTThere's little better in life than multiplayer mech battles and nowhere better to fight them than Ghost in the Shell-ish futuristic cityscapes, which makes Indie developer Adhesive Games' announcement (via Rock, Paper, Shotgun) of mech combat FPS Hawken jolly exciting.
Adhesive makes the disclaimer that the Unreal Engine FPS has only been in development for nine months and is still a work in progress, but as you can see, it's already looking gorgeous:
Rather than slow, ungainly, mega-mechs, Hawken features agile constructions. Adhesive explains that it wants to create "an intense and enjoyable battle experience that captures the feeling of piloting a heavy war machine while keeping the action fast-paced and strategic."
Hawken will offer two "unique" team modes, along with team-based and free-for-all deathmatch.
Adhesive notes that it hopes to release Hawken as a downloadable title for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with "a relatively low cost compared to boxed games." It'll be released "when it's done."

As Arcanum said, I'd rather have the mechs have a "realistic" weight to them, not seeing cracks in the ground when they land looked odd. Hopefully those are added since it's only 9 months in.
I do love the way the world looks though, very impressive.
