Rebellion Games, the UK developer known most recently for Aliens vs. Predator, has opened a social division to create games for platforms like Facebook, reports Develop.

The studio recently launched the beta of its first Facebook game, titled Evil Genius and based on an older PC title of the same name. Co-founder Jason Kingsley said the development of that game "has given us an appetite to look at other opportunities in the area."

"One thing that has become increasingly clear over the last few years is that gamers can't be defined as just people who own consoles," said Kingsley, "people who use social media like Facebook or use smart phones all play games and this is an exciting opportunity that we want to explore."

The company reportedly plans to continue working on core games alongside its new social games division.

While the Evil Genuis facebook game is ok, I really hope we will see a full Evil Genuis game someday. Maybe for the ipad???

The EG facebook game is pretty much just a Mafia Wars knock off. Nothing new to really see from my time spent with it.
