GDC: Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion announced
by Steve Watts, Mar 01, 2011 11:00am PSTStardock and Ironclad Games announced the anticipated standalone expansion to Sins of a Solar Empire: Diplomacy, titled "Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion," at the Game Developers Conference.
The long war of the previous games has dragged on so long that diplomacy has broken down and weapons are scarce. Sub-factions are rebelling, expanding the universe to let players choose between playing as Loyalists or Rebels, each with their own tech trees.
Other new additions include ship classes: Titans as lumbering warships, new Capital ships, and small Corvette ships. The Loyalists and Rebels will also each get their own unique frigates and cruisers. The Capital ships will also gain new ability levels.
New victory conditions are said to provide more variety and shorter game sessions. Technical tweaks include lighting and particle effects, and the game will support Stardock's Impulse::Reactor back end.
Ironclad Games is developing the title, and Stardock will be publishing it. Stardock recently hinted at a new Sins of a Solar Empire, and reaffirmed its commitment to Impulse::Reactor. The news isn't surprising, but came faster than we might have guessed.
