It seems that the leak from last week was true, as EA has now officially unveiled its revamped Command & Conquer site. The new site confirms that Victory Games will head up Command & Conquer development, with industry veteran Jon Van Caneghem at the helm.
An internal interview with Van Caneghem also confirms the studio locations in Los Angeles, Texas, and Shanghai, China, and their first project being a new "AAA" Command & Conquer game.
The new site focuses quite a bit on making a "stable base for future development" of the Command & Conquer series, so paired with a brand new studio it seems that EA has big plans to iterate on the franchise.

With Jon Van Caneghem heading the new studio, it got me thinking on the old companies he was with, New World Computing and 3DO. 3DO shut down after Heroes of Might and Magic 4 came out. I think it was due to all of the shovelware crap that 3DO put out, instead of focusing on their core franchises. Yes, game companies need to take chances on new IPs, but they also need to put time and effort into them, not just dump money on a game, decide it needs to go to market when it still sucks, and then make nothing off of it.
I think the down economy has actually been really good for the gaming industry. It's taught the industry that gamers not only don't want shovelware, but that they just DO NOT have the money for it. -

ZH needed a patch or two more, though. Nukes not destroying even the tiniest GLA buildings because you have to damage them at least twice, was a bit dumb. Still, really nice blend of modern and future/sci-fi tech.
Bunkerbustering some garrisoned buildings with stealth fighters and following up with an A10 strike on the defense buildings, with some tanks rolling in right behind was good fun.

You mean a hypothetical RA series that did not divert from the semi-serious original into camp territory?
Just listen to the RA1 menu theme, the tone back then was different, so to speak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKF952Tu2hs

It was fucking god awful. Single biggest disappointment I've ever personally had in gaming. It wasn't a Command and Conquer game. Even if you take the title off and try to let it stand on its own as some kind of independent game, it's STILL fucking terrible. The game play was boring as all hell and the plot was non-existent.
Stick with C&C 3 and Red Alert 3 for now. Avoid C&C 4. -
