Bizarre veterans form Lucid Games

Barely a week after Bizarre Creations shut its doors for good, green sprouts of life have begun to spring from the remains of the Project Gotham Racing and Geometry Wars developer.

New studio Lucid Games formally announced its existence today, featuring former Bizarre employees including development manager Pete Wallace, senior producer Peter O'Brien and an unnamed lead technical programmer. The company was founded by 'media entrepreneur' Professor Paul Morrissey.

"With the great history of Bizarre behind us, we are proud to be part of Lucid and are committed to the UK game development community," Wallace said in the announcement, in his new role as Lucid managing director. Like Bizarre, Lucid is setting up shop around the English city of Liverpool.

Lucid Games "is currently talking to several publishers regarding potential projects," according to the announcement, "and beginning the process of building a world class team of artists, designers and programmers to build innovative products." Bizarre's owner, Activision, revealed in November that, after disappointing sale of action-racer Blur, it was "exploring [its] options regarding the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business." Unfortunately, no buyer could be found and the studio closed down last Friday.
