Bizarre veterans form Lucid Games

While Bizarre Creations is sadly gone, things are looking up for several former members, who've formed a new studio named Lucid Games.

Barely a week after Bizarre Creations shut its doors for good, green sprouts of life have begun to spring from the remains of the Project Gotham Racing and Geometry Wars developer.

New studio Lucid Games formally announced its existence today, featuring former Bizarre employees including development manager Pete Wallace, senior producer Peter O'Brien and an unnamed lead technical programmer. The company was founded by 'media entrepreneur' Professor Paul Morrissey.

"With the great history of Bizarre behind us, we are proud to be part of Lucid and are committed to the UK game development community," Wallace said in the announcement, in his new role as Lucid managing director. Like Bizarre, Lucid is setting up shop around the English city of Liverpool.

Lucid Games "is currently talking to several publishers regarding potential projects," according to the announcement, "and beginning the process of building a world class team of artists, designers and programmers to build innovative products." There's certainly a number of talented people out of games jobs in the Liverpool area right now. If you fancy applying, pop on over to the official Lucid site for details.

Bizarre's owner, Activision, revealed in November that, after disappointing sale of action-racer Blur, it was "exploring [its] options regarding the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business." Unfortunately, no buyer could be found and the studio closed down last Friday.

Summary: Bizarre are gone. That's bad! Several Bizarre people have formed a new studio. That's good!

They probably won't be working on PGR5. That's bad! But they'll probably be working on some other racing game. That's good!

I visited the Bizarre team like 10+ years ago. They were a great group. It was sad to hear about the closure. Glad they aren't completely gone.

Woop! Good news - maybe they can get MS to hire them for another PGR game.

that would be so awesome. is PGR MS's property or was it Bizzares?

It is owned by MS which is one of the reasons Activision buying Bizarre never made any sense.

MS -- they were looking for a studio to "revive" it at one point.

There were always rumors that Turn 10 was working on PGR5, but I think they were just lies :(

Is Stephen Cakebread there? He's the guy that created the Geometry Wars series, so I'm very interested in seeing what he does next.
