Microsoft has announced that the upcoming beta for its recently dated third-person shooter, Gears of War 3, will arrive some time in mid-April.

Revealed in a blog post by Xbox Live's director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, the beta will include "three new Versus Multiplayer modes on four maps." In order to prepare for the beta, Microsoft is allowing fans to vote for which maps they would like to test during the public beta on the game's Facebook page.

Beta codes are currently included in the "Epic Edition" of the EA-published shooter Bulletstorm, from developers Epic and People Can Fly. Gears of War 3 is scheduled to arrive on the Xbox 360 on September 20, 2011.

I didn't play much Gears 2 online; however, I hope this beta means they'll clean up any issues.

Yeah I completely agree. I'm not even sure I will bother with the multiplayer this time around. Host advantage + hacking made the game unplayable.
