Mexico State Legislators Request Call of Juarez Ban
by Steve Watts, Feb 22, 2011 6:00pm PSTWe had a sneaking suspicion that Call of Juarez: The Cartel, a game based on the modern-day gang violence plaguing Mexico, would run into controversy. It's starting even earlier than expected, though, as MSNBC reports that Mexican officials are asking federal authorities to ban the game.
State legislators in Chihuahua, where Ciudad Juarez is actually located, unanimously approved a request for the Mexican Interior Department to ban the game.
The violence in Juarez has escalated in recent years; roughly 6,000 people died in 2009 and 2010. "It is true there is a serious crime situation, which we are not trying to hide," said Chihuahua congressman Ricardo Boone Salmon. "But we also should not expose our children to this kind of scenarios so that they are going to grow up with this kind of image and lack of values."
State congress leader Enrique Serrano said the legislature is concerned for the children who actually live in Juarez, who are already surrounded by violence and are even taught "duck and cover" techniques in case gunfire breaks out. He fears that a game with violent local imagery could reinforce the real-life violence, making them "believe so much blood and death is normal."

So you say "this game shouldn't be played by kids" and then "they should get off their ass and fix the problem". Thats, first and foremost, some really high and mighty fairy tale bullshit that is obviously being posted by white kids in good ol' middle class suburbia. So while thousands of people are pbeing killed, many bystanders, you think they should have a lock down on who games are sold to? Good priorities.
But most of all, the asinine "fix the problem" comments. Do you realize this is all happening because of americans? First, our government is behind all the turmoil thats mixing things up and causing these cartel wars. Secondly, its AMERICANS BUYING WEED that is funding all of it. Every person on any side of the war on drugs fence admits that marijuana sales in the united states makes up 60-70% of their profits.
So go ahead, be stupid, narrsicistic, head up your ass americans and sum it up by saying its because mexico is full of fail, all the while its the american population (and gamers who smoke weed) that are giving the cartels the money to pull all this violence off.
I think the guy has a point and his shoes I would see it very similarly. Theres only so much damage control you can do considering that our weed consumption over the last 40 years has made a very stable financial situation for these cartels, so they have more money than the government. When you can't solve the problem outright, its never good to have media (like games) that appear to perpetuate the problems and possibly even glorify them.

I had a buddy that worked at kentucky kingdom (now a 6 flags amusement park), and he got to be friends with one of the cops that worked in the emplyee area. One day this dude invites him back to his car and pull out a giant bag of weed, rolls a joint and smoke with him while talking about how he only gives out "warnings" but steals peoples shit then sells it to his contacts or shady friends. Craziness.
