Weekend Discussion

There's "late to the party" and then there's this... I "just" discovered This American Life with Ira Glass. Yes, just discovered a show that began in the mid-90s. I had of course heard of the program but had never actually listened to it. Recently, I did. Currently, I cannot stop. Sometimes we miss things in popular culture, or cult hits that otherwise would completely mesh with our interests. Games can do this too.

What are you "Late to the Party" with?

  • Garnett Lee: Less time than I'd like for gaming this weekend but when I get to I'll be continuing my trek in the Witcher, getting started with PixelJunk Shooter 2, and maybe going a few rounds with Fight Night Champion.
  • Alice O'Connor: On Saturday evening I'll be seeing Troll 2 and its retrospective documentary, Best Worst Movie. I imagine I shall then, with my mind blown, dissemble into my constituent parts until the cruel Monday light stings my photoreceptors, and by sheer force of will I knit sinew, flesh and bone into human form so I can work while Americans frolick in the sunshine wearing Daisy Dukes, bikinis on top.
  • Xav de Matos: I see some Dead Space 2 and DC Universe Online in my future.
  • Jeff Mattas: A three-day weekend with no major plans! Hooray! I'll be doing my best to jam through The Witcher, another Mass Effect 2 playthrough (for DLC), and a bit more Dead Space 2 on Zealot. Maybe I'll fire up some Blur too, in memoriam.
  • Steve Watts: I've spent the last few nights being made to feel dumb in You Don't Know Jack, and I plan to continue doing so for the foreseeable future. Plus I'll be playing some Tactics Ogre on the PSP; it's like the Final Fantasy Tactics sequel I always wanted but never had.
  • Ozzie Mejia: Playing Marvel vs. Capcom 3 all weekend. Captain America, Akuma, Iron Man! I bring it!

Xav de Matos was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.
