Evening Reading

This is one of those three-day holiday weekends with signature sporting events here in the United Stated. The NBA makes a weekend out of the midseason break with the Rookie Challenge tonight, 3-pt and Slam Dunk Contests tomorrow night, and then the All-Star game Sunday. NASCAR starts the season with its "The Great American Race", the Daytona 500.

Seems to me a couple of games missed out on their chance be part of the weekend's festivities. Bulletstorm and Killzone 3 both come out next week, but plenty of people would have enjoyed making their weekend out of either of them. Granted, it's not an issue outside the US, but if either had released this past week...well, it's hard to beat a three-day weekend and a new game. Eh, maybe it's for the best; it just means more time for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and catching up on all the other games I want to play.

Here are the top video game news stories from today on the Shack:

One of the last empty chatty's. I'm excited for the new site.

We already had a time when there was 1 chatty per day, it sucked, all of the bullshit shitstorm threads kept getting bumped.

I'm apprehensive of stuff sticking around for 24 hours, but I'm grooving how much things are staying the same.

Huh, fascinating. Overall same shack, just a bit of new paint on it? Or anything else major going on? I guess I'll find out more in a few months, I just didn't want to load up the Shack and see something weird and get all confused and shit.

Does anyone know if the Shack API is going to have to change?

Will the Shack's new API be similar to the existing one?

It's very similar. The structure of the data is nearly identical. There's some added fields, and it will require an API key unlike the public/open APIs we use now, but otherwise it shouldn't be too hard to adjust the clients to support it.

I think SqueegyTBS, stonedonkey, and themelon have received early access. If you have an app your working on, you might want to contact them or greg-m about getting access.

I have had an app out for half a year. I may just retire it.

the community API servers will continue to run for the foreseeable future. stonedonkey has said his API server will continue to run (itself feeding off the official API) to allow a smooth transition

and definitely contact greg-m. I haven't seen any indication that they're keeping this thing secret. They're actively reaching out to the client authors; they probably just didn't know you were one of them.
