Evening Reading
by Garnett Lee, Feb 18, 2011 5:00pm PSTThis is one of those three-day holiday weekends with signature sporting events here in the United Stated. The NBA makes a weekend out of the midseason break with the Rookie Challenge tonight, 3-pt and Slam Dunk Contests tomorrow night, and then the All-Star game Sunday. NASCAR starts the season with its "The Great American Race", the Daytona 500.
Seems to me a couple of games missed out on their chance be part of the weekend's festivities. Bulletstorm and Killzone 3 both come out next week, but plenty of people would have enjoyed making their weekend out of either of them. Granted, it's not an issue outside the US, but if either had released this past week...well, it's hard to beat a three-day weekend and a new game. Eh, maybe it's for the best; it just means more time for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and catching up on all the other games I want to play.
Here are the top video game news stories from today on the Shack:
Rumor: Slant Six was working on Medal of Honor Vita game
Simpsons, King of the Hill writer joins Angry Birds film
Class of Heroes 2 coming to PSN on June 4
Shelter gameplay trailer is delightful, horrifying
Alan Wake Humble Bundle launches

Some concessions would obviously have to be made for the sake of fun. Obviously the world was especially deadly at that time, so the game would have to be unrealistically forgiving. No death by infected wounds, for example. Recovery time from wounds would have to be dramatically accelerated.
Another issue is that I suspect developers would have a hard time making Rome as gritty and colorful as it really was, since we're used to grand, white marble structures, instead of painted statues and crummy, flammable tenements. Still, that's a game that I'd like to play.
