Duke Nukem Forever Uses Steamworks on PC
by Alice O'Connor, Feb 15, 2011 12:00pm PSTAfter playing it coy about Steam for a fair while, Gearbox today announced that Duke Nukem Forever will use Steamworks on PC, meaning that all PC editions of the macho shooter will be tied to a Steam account.
Publisher 2K confirmed on its official forums that Duke is "using Steamworks and only Steamworks for both the single player and multiplayer components."
Also announced today were the pre-order bonuses offered by several stores. Buying at Walmart will net you a classy DNF trucker hat. GameStop goes highbrow with the 'Duke's Big Package' downloadable content pack, which contains Big Head Mode, a boost to Duke's Ego (health) and a pack of t-shirts for Duke to wear. The Australian EB Games, the retailer offering Duke's Big Package down under, gives a teasing peek at it. More retailer pre-order bonuses are still to be unveiled.
Duke Nukem Forever is due out for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 3. A $100 limited Balls of Steel Edition exists for Duke diehards, with goodies including a hardcover art book, poker chips and a bust of Duke himself.
