Independent UK Developer The Code Monkeys Closing
by Steve Watts, Feb 14, 2011 4:00pm PSTAfter 23 years one of the oldest independent UK developers, The Code Monkeys, plans to close its doors. An epitaph on the company site [via Gamasutra] reads:
On the Company's 23rd birthday (1st February 2011), the Directors/Shareholders of The Code Monkeys voted to cease trading. It would've been nice to make the quarter century, but alas...
The company began making games in 1988 for the ZX81, and has since developed for consoles like the Sega CD, PlayStation family, Gameboy, and Nintendo DS. Its recent library shows several WiiWare and iPad games like Triple Running Sports. The company also had various DS, iPad, and PSP games in development. Gamasutra also reports that the company had reduced staff to match its output in January of last year.
