Report: New 'Packaged' Assassin's Creed Coming Sometime This Year; Details in May

9
With word that Assassin's Creed Brotherhood has shipped a cool 6.5 million units since launching worldwide, it appears that Ubisoft isn't ready to put the franchise on a window sill to cool off.

According to Kotaku, Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot said a new packaged Assassin's Creed game will launch this year. The report also states that more details on the project will be released in May.

In July 2010, Ubisoft associate producer Jean-Francois Boivin said that he personally felt video game franchises need room to breathe and should ignore annual release traps, including the Assassin's Creed franchise. To his credit, Boivin also stated that business could override his personal thoughts because, "at the end of the day it's about selling games." If a 2011 release proves to be true, it's a simple case of Ubisoft's booming Assassin business showing no reason to stop for the time being.

Wow, that seems fast. What are the odds that we'll see a new setting/characters with a turnaround that quick?

Replace all haystacks with garbage cans. Replace all textures with modern ones. Call it Assassin's Creed 3: Modern Assfare.

i strongly suspect this will be another game with the AC2/ASSBRO assets, and that AC3 will be 2012.

Kinda conflicted if that's the case. On the one hand, more Assassin's Creed! Awesome! On the other, I'm pretty 'done' with Ezio and his story.

I really doubt they'll go back to that era. No proof. I just can't imagine they'd think that'd be a good idea.

it could easily be somebody other than Ezio/Desmond. the ASSBRO MP sets up the possibility of them throwing Templars in the Animus.

The opening escape sequence in AC2 also alludes to that, no?
