Morning Discussion
by Xav de Matos, Feb 08, 2011 5:00am PSTAccording to TVLine.com, Super Bowl XLV was the highest rated event in the sport's history. Based on ratings data the big game tackled 111 million viewers, besting last year's game by 4.5 million sports fans.
The numbers are certainly deserved since XLV was one of the more exciting championship games I've seen in a very long time--in any sport. The outcome wasn't what I expected but it was entertaining from top to bottom.
Actually, there was a terrible bit in the middle where my television started flickering and the sound started to break apart. No matter how hard I hit my television it just wouldn't right itself and, in some spots, started to get so bad I thought my TV was going to break. But then the Black Eyed Peas got off the stage and everything was cool again.

Anti-piracy efforts from MS and Sony will bring on the next generation of console hardware before developers are looking for updated hardware. Sony is essentially screwed at this point, and what really sucks is I doubt their next system will be backwards compatible. How can they let you play potentially compromised games on their next system without potentially compromising that system as well?
I dunno, its a bummer when stuff like this affects the consumer. I understand the point GeoHotz (or whatever his fucking name is) was trying to make about the Install Other OS option on the PS3, but he sorta ruined it for everyone else when he hacked the console and we'll all pay the price with some sort of serial number, locked number of activations, etc BS with the rest of their games for PS3 and whatever comes next.

Ironically what Geohot did in OtherOS was pretty pointless, and by removing OtherOS they brought a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't have fucked with the system at all (Marcan/etc). The original dongle hack was found by leaked specs and a jig from a Sony repair center, not from anything Geohot got. And it was patched out very easily.
The whole teardown of lvl1/lvl2 occured because OtherOS was yanked out and guys like Marcan were pissed a legitimate feature was yanked. Marcan and the fail0verflow guys didn't give a shit about piracy (and are very vocal in their opposition to it). And the guys who did enable piracy like Wanininko and Hermes would have never really figured out anything beyond the dongle exploit. Their claim to fame is taking the work of the real hackers like Marcan and packaging them with warez tools.
