[Original Story] Halo is almost a decade old, and 343 Industries might be celebrating the occasion with a remake of the game that started the franchise. According to Joystiq sources, the long-rumored remake of Halo: Combat Evolved is in the works for the Xbox 360 with new art assets and modern control options.
The game is said to be one of two being produced under 343 Industries, the production company now tasked with overseeing the franchise. Saber Interactive, developers of TimeShift, are reportedly developing the game. This game isn't using the Reach engine, but it's unknown what engine it will use.
Other rumored features include 1080p resolution and 3D TV support. Multiplayer details are still being discussed, but it will probably include online co-op. The game is aiming for launch on November 15, 2011, 10 years to the day after the original Halo launched.
This matches recent remake rumors and the details sound believable enough, but it doesn't mesh with Microsoft's dismissal of HD remakes. As usual with rumors of this nature, take it with a grain of salt until we hear official word from 343 or Microsoft. We've contacted Microsoft and will update as information becomes available.
