Morning Discussion

Relax! It's Friday. Kick your shoes off, tug at the uncomfortable Hawaiian shirt that you're required to wear for Hawaiian Shirt Friday and just let it all wash over you. Myself, I'm taking it easy by making a Morning Discussion post out of things that have been sent to us, or that I've been gawping at over lunch. Things like these things:

Christopher Smith sent word that the fourth episode of his "graphic novel"-style machinima series Obscurity has recently been released. The first part is here.

Irrational Games is hiring for a number of positions. Say, why don't you apply?

Far Cry 2 creative director Clint Hocking on the fascinating idea of releasing slimline games for cheap to serve as a platform, supported by a ton of varied paid content. He uses the example of Fallout 3. THQ professes to be trying a similar idea with its MX vs. ATV Alive, though certainly not to the same extent.

Why is the Writer's Guild of America Best Videogame Writing Award typically won by something wacky? Because, if you didn't already know, wackiness is afoot.

Lastly, the UK video games media have spent the past few days snickering at Games Journo Story, a short RPG about people wot do words about video games. Learn about the industry, meet a few of its notable figures and hey, why not have a little fun?

I hardly put any hours into it in the last beta and got a character to level 19, and a couple of other chars to around level 6

Seems pretty quick to level but I've heard some rumours that they sped up the leveling for beta and that it will be slower in the retail - not sure if I believe this though as the quest flow seems perfect for your level at the moment

Some people prefer to hit max level quickly so they can focus on stuff like PVP, or raiding.

Not everyone enjoys the leveling up process :)

I just like frequent rewards. It could be levels or loot, but if they are spread too far apart (or if the rewards are pointless) I tend to lose interest quickly.

If you patched up last night, there is another patch out. Patcher update as well. Dunno on patcher, but the main patch is 61.2MB in size.

It's fun. I'm enjoying immersing myself in the lore of a new fantasy world. Only having to make four characters ever thanks for quad-specialization is very appealing. I'll be able to invest in my "main" and not worry about getting burned out too quickly on a style of play.

Although, much has changed since then. There are apparently spec talents now in place of some of these that make that tree's stuff more powerful the more talents you put into the tree.

I would like to see stats for numbers of people who buy rift and play zero hours just for the tf2 items. This shit is getting out of hand.

With so many items now I would doubt there are people paying 50 dollars for thes items. It is not like they are going to be rare.

      sooo, thoughts? http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0McpV.VIzoVVsz.xhxhzo.E0dV00M

I really don't know. I've been going the ranger/marks/bard set up, and finding myself just strumming cadence, power chord, and then coda of wrath right now. The only thing out of ranger was some health bonus and the pet and nothing from marks. My assumption is that my rotation wouldn't change except maybe I'll be hitting guarded steel at the start just to get some bonus armor. On the other hand, I'd be able to switch in skills and go full tank if need be with motifs and just riftstalker skills. Not sure the place for bladedancer in this mix other than it gives some more tanking talents (+dodge, reactive that can't miss, etc).
