by Alice O'Connor, Feb 02, 2011 2:00pm PSTIf you were excited by the recent details on Dark Souls, From Software's multi-platform successor to Demon's Souls, you'll be thrilled by today's new trailer, screenshots and artwork.
The new media features a wide range of the brutal but fair RPG's locations, and the numerous ways you'll die in them. Sewer? Giant rat. Rooftops? Giant gargoyle. Ramparts? Giant dragon. Overgrown ruins? Armoured giant boar. Catacombs? Deadly drops. Death, death, death everywhere. You'll love it.
Dark Souls is scheduled for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this year, published by Namco Bandai Games.

Demon's Souls was such an excellent game, I can't wait to see what FROM does with an open world!

The execution is more subtle than most games, and the actual visual style is on the boring side, but I think the whole package is surprisingly cohesive.
The single most memorable moment of the game is the boss fight against Maiden Astraea and Garl Vinland in the swamp full of aborted fetuses. They just want to be left alone, to watch over the fallen-zombified soldiers as an act of compassion since they died fighting a crusade Astraea lead. Astraea's dialogue, followed by her committing suicide leaves such a bitter taste to your mouth.
Man, that part really makes you question if you're really 'the good guy.' Feels bad man. Another part is the prince Ostrava dies and becomes a black phantom no matter what you do.
