Morning Discussion
by Alice O'Connor, Feb 02, 2011 5:00am PSTAs much as I enjoy the GOMtv StarCraft league, I'm struggling to keep up with it all. With a short team tournament beginning on Monday, I still haven't finished the last season of the main league. Before that, Code A and Code S games had been going for a fortnight before I managed to finish Season 3. It's all jolly nice but there's just so much of it.
I imagine this is one of the reasons sports fans stick to following a single team. I can't explain the other reasons because they'll get all shirty with me if anyone reads this post out loud for them. Do you see what I am implying? It's quite hilarious, is it not? I knew you would agree, imaginary reader I created purely to agree with me. You always do, my dearest friend. I love you. Honestly though, please don't read this out to any sports fans.

I never played through Mass Effect 1. I did try the first few levels, but my computer sucked at the time and thought the combat was really weak so I just sort of gave up. I now have super fast Sandy Vagina and I'm thinking about picking up ME2. Is it a good idea to skip ME1? I just don't want to drudge through the weak combat.

-the cockpit of the Normandy has a co-pilot seat in the first game.. the new Normandy doesn't in the second. Now... I guess EDI is considered the co-pilot now... but having that seat there with an actual guy sitting there... just made it feel more like a real ship. That ship would have a co-pilot seat in the real world.
-the environments in ME1 were not as densely populated or flashy... but in some cases they were much bigger, more impressive and somewhat more realistic. When you go up to the tower in the Citadel to talk to the council in ME1... just look at the scale of those rooms! It's freaking HUGE. And the Presidium in ME1 was freaking amazing.. the size and scale blew me away. In the second game they kind of glosses over it and you couldn't walk around as much. It was a bit disappointing (I'm guessing that was part of cutting down on the loading times though...)
There are things like that.... ME2 combat is WAY better... the game flows better and has better missions and less filler and cooler set pieces and even better conversations. It is better in so many ways. But ME1 has a certain pacing and feel to it... it's a bit more 2001 (the movie) and a bit less.. Michael Bay. That's the best way I can describe it. I still really love the first game.
