Just Add Water Remaking Abe's Oddysee in HD
by Steve Watts, Jan 31, 2011 1:00pm PSTSeries creator Lorne Lanning and the team at Just Add Water have announced that an HD remake of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is in production. An interview in the March issue of EGM (via Facebook) outlines the plans for the game, nicknamed "Abe HD."
"It's basically Abe's Oddysee being redone in a 3D physics engine as a 2D side-scrolling platformer," said Lanning. "So the way Just Add Water wants to approach it, we thought was very smart; they are not trying to reinvent any wheels. It's like, 'Can we make that experience in a new engine, with new tech, in the old way?'"
This is slightly different from the previously announced development of Stranger's Wrath for PlayStation Network. Abe HD seems to be a full remake from the ground up, while Lanning says Stranger is "the same game, but being redone." A version of Stranger's Wrath for XBLA is also ready for release, but Lanning says the game keeps being rejected. It's possible this is due to the size limitations we heard about last year.
