Anticipation 2011: Recap
by Shack Staff, Jan 29, 2011 11:00am PSTOver the last week, the staff at Shacknews have detailed its most anticipated titles of the year. The rules were firm: each main contributor selected a number of different titles to highlight and gave his or her reasons as to why it's on their "Watch List."
While there was a lot of crossover in the selection process, we decided to each pick different games. We did this purposefully to highlight as many games as we could. So, for example, while Alice was the staffer that named Duke Nukem Forever in her picks, everyone on staff is looking forward to finally stepping into his gruff shoes.
Here's what the Shack staff is looking forward to in 2011:

Not to mention the engine still seems to suffer from id Tech 4's complete inability to render human fresh realistically. I guess it has something to do with how it reflects light, who knows. It looks like plastic. Compare facial closeups of Crysis with these screenshots and it really stands out.

I'm a huge id fan, from the wolf3d days on (kind of grown out of it, just because they haven't been doing much). I'm sure they can make a good game, and I'm sure Rage will not be a bad game. I was simply agreeing that my excitement for it has waned, and the engine doesn't look as impressive - although it might have more to do with the art direction and not so much the capabilities under the hood.
