QuakeCon 2011 Dates Announced; Event Runs from August 4 to August 7, 2011

id Software's annual event of fragging and sharing pornography, QuakeCon, has been dated for 2011. QuakeCon 2011 will run from August 4 until August 7, 2011, id's fellow ZeniMax Media subsidiary Bethesda Softworks has announced.

QuakeCon will once again invite a horde of gamers to the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

Although QuakeCon is famous for its huge BYOC (bring your own computer) event and LAN parties, we're holding out hope that id Software uses the event to show off Doom 4.

The next installment of the legendary franchise was expected to be featured at QuakeCon 2010 but was held back so the developer could put more work into it before it was revealed. For a breakdown of last year's event, make sure to check out our QuakeCon 2010 tag hub.

Tickets for the event are not yet available, nor has the schedule of events been revealed. Shacknews will update you as that information is provided.

I like to think at least a snippet will be shown since Rage will be out later this year.

It's a month before release, so that's close to when the game would be going gold and/or be submitted to Microsoft / Sony cert on the console side, so hopefully it wouldn't be something that hard to plan.

Tthis will be the fifth QuakeCon in a row where we can see and hear all about Rage - but not buy it yet.

After last year's fiasco they might just have a riot on their hand if they do it again this year...

I'm less enthusiastic about it, and more just keen to get the disappointment over with. After they completely missed the point with Doom 3...
