Zipper Announces SOCOM 4 Release Date, GameStop Pre-Order Bonus

2
Zipper has given SOCOM 4 a solid release date on the PlayStation Blog. The game is set for April 19, after being pushed into the nebulous "2011" time frame.

The developer also teased a GameStop exclusive pre-order bonus, the "Abandoned" map. Veterans of the series may get a tinge of nostalgia at hearing the name, as it was a map from SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals for the PlayStation 2.

A mid-April release means those who get in on the multiplayer beta via Killzone 3 (launching February 22) should be able to enjoy it for a month or so before it's pulled to prepare for the full game.

I never played the series but from what I gather it was a ps2 era title amd its purpose pretty much vanished when battlefield and modern warfare or even GRAW came to the consoles. From what I can tell, socom doesn't have any gameplay elements that make it stand out over those other shooters.
