PlayStation Store Update: Bulletstorm Demo, Dead Space Extraction and More

6
Cruel and unusual dismemberment was a big theme in yesterday's weekly update of the PlayStation Store. The demo of Bulletstorm features a number of rewards for being unkind to intimate body parts, while the $15 PS3 port of Wii on-rails shooter Dead Space Extraction--which also has a demo--freely blasts limbs off poor, innocent corpses.

The update also kicked off Sony's '11 for 11' sale, offering 50% off eleven respectable downloadable games. On top of that, there's the David Bowie tracks for Rock Band 3, another Super Street Fighter IV costume pack, a downloadable version of new PSP release Lord of Arcana, plus some Dead Space 2 item packs costing a pricey $5 each.

That's not all, of course. The full update listing follows below:

Reposting under the PS3 section, in case no one saw it on the other thread. Just a heads up:

So...maybe Im used to PC games a little too much, but is there NO jumping in Bulletstorm? WTF? I could understand if its 3rd person, but a first person shooter without jumping? No buy. I got stuck on tons of shit in the game - bars, the edge of a discarded gun (seriously), and other random debris. You can duck, slide, run, and shoot....but it could have added loads more kill combos if you could jump.

Also...the FOV kind of sucks. I played on PS3, then watched my friend on XBOX 360, and it felt the same...just a little claustrophobic, which i understand seems to be the normal thing for UE3 engine games unless otherwise noted. I had instances of sliding into a fight, trying to boot the guy, having him somehow run past me, then we basically had a running dog fight for a minute until I could back up enough to hit him again. Not cool.

Graphic wise, its on par with other UE games, which isnt necessarily a bad thing. It ran smoothly, and didnt have any hiccups. IMO, it seemed a tad smoother on the PS3, but it could also be the older LCD TV my friend has versus a plasma that I own. Im not sure on that...but it looked good.

The humor is a little cheesy at times...i think they tried to squeeze in a little too much vulgarity, but it fits, and its fun. The gore is excessive, but it too has its place here, and it seems right at home.

AI was not good, but it could be that it was just a demo. Basically, I saw a lot of badguys do the "run straight towards the good guy's gun", which made killing too easy on EASY and NORMAL modes...but I didnt try HARD. I decided to focus on the different ways I could kill someone instead, and that was fun for a few runthroughs.

All in all, I felt it was a B- or C+ if I had to grade it. To me, it is not worth the $60, especially if there is no jumping. I think a FPS should have that as a standard. It was fun...but not $60 fun.

    Its just my opinion though.

I would probably say you are too attached to the PC. In the console games, even Call Of Duty hardly anyone jumps around. Those that do are the ones that have put in a lot of time with xyz game. Most console gamers that try to jump around can't keep the target centered so we don't. As a former PC gamer (last one was Unreal Tournament 2004) the controls felt fine. The badguys who run at the character do so each time for a reason. Once you figure out which kill combo they want you to do, each encounter makes sense. Even a character falling in front of you is done for a reason, (i.e. the character gets up with his back to you so you can get the rear entry killshot.) A group of enemies running at you, which is done twice can be used to get the "Gang Bang" killshot and the other you can get the "Homie Missile".

My opinion is that on consoles not being able to jump is not as big of a deal.

Did you have anything to do at all with the making or testing of this game?

Geesh, I sound that much like a fanboy?

I am buying it solely for the Gears of War 3 demo. If I wasn't purchasing this for the 360, I would have waited for a sale or rented it. Only reason is I don't know if after one playthrough if I would want to go through it again, and from what I have seen I don't know if the multiplayer will keep me interested after I finish it.

As a console gamer first, there was at no point I thought "I wish I could jump". When I was playing Unreal Tournament 2004, and yes even the ill fated UT3 on the computer I jump around all the time because I can aim better. So yes, on the PC I imagine it would annoy me to no end. As a console game however, I don't think it is as busted as evilbabygenius indicated.

I am planning to buy this game on PC. However, if there isn't any jumping I won't.
Is this just a console thing or what?

wtf. I swear I was jumping when I played it on X360.

So what was your final best score? sub 4000? Try to get to 10,000.

Nah...I was right around 5500 the first time, but got up to the 8k range after I ran through a few times. I realized that they want me to do kills a certain way (hence the people running at me thing), but it didnt seem to change, and if I'm supposed to kill them the same way each time, that will get old FAST.

When I play MW2 on 360, I jump, and Halo as well. I never "just run"...then its too easy to get picked off.

Unless you're playing Quake and you can change your trajectory at any point in the air, jumping just gives them an easier target because you are guaranteed to be moving the same speed and same direction for the duration of the jump.
Not to say that I don't jump, I jump all the time. No jump in a game is just retarded, especially an FPS
