by Xav de Matos, Jan 25, 2011 5:00am PSTVacation's over. I really enjoyed my time away from work, exploring some of the great spots buried within Chicago. It was a hectic time in the city due to the face-off between the Bears and the Pack. It didn't turn out well for Bears fans.
What did turn out well was Never Not Funny, live at the Congress Theater. The show was hilarious as usual, Daver sang the theme and the crew sang along at the end. As an added bonus, I had the pleasure of meeting the crew. What a classy group of gentlemen.
Well, it's back to work for me. Next time I'll be sure to remember to take more than two days off. Maybe.

So, if rosewood's advice doesn't magically fix my server, I am going to need to buy something to replace it.
Currently, my server runs Windows Server 2008 and is used for a couple things: a file server (it has a 1tb hdd that I have all of my media on for xbmc to access,) torrents, Dropbox, and also a convenient box I can RDP in to at any time because it's always on.
What is a good inexpensive way to replace this? I'm thinking something like a nettop plugged in to some sort of NAS system? I do want to add another TB or two in to this thing as well.

Last night I wanted to know what happened after Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so I watched the second Swedish movie. I have to admit that despite some hackneyed story elements, I really liked the movie.
There's some pretty gritty stuff in it and the pacing isn't all wack like the first book/movie.
Now I just wish the third flick was on Netflix Instant Queue instead of being disc-only. :/

I'm having a hard time deciding between the two. I used to love all things AMD -- until Core 2 Duo came out and I've been Intel all the time. I used to like ATI until I got my 8800GTS and have enjoyed something called a stable system. I look at the benchmarks on Anandtech for the two cards and they are just neck and neck. Basically they come in at a tie. But with the nVidia card, I can buy EVGA which means lifetime warranty and buying from a company that has been very good to me in the past. So that really has me leaning that way.
What would Duke buy?

The Right Stuff, after having seen it a dozen and a half times in my life, is passed over far too commonly in discussions of the greatest, undeniably high merit films in the last century. Why it is not side by side with the Godfather in these discussions vexes me, you never hear it.
2nd, Zooey Deschanel's mother played John Glenn's stammering camera shy wife in the film.
I believe the film would only be a very good historical piece had it only included most of the Mercury program guys. However, the constant callbacks to Yeager and man's fundamental desire to push the envelope were simply perfectly timed and outstanding and made the movie a bulletproof timeless piece.
What a fascinating age it was.
