Morning Discussion
by Xav de Matos, Jan 25, 2011 5:00am PSTVacation's over. I really enjoyed my time away from work, exploring some of the great spots buried within Chicago. It was a hectic time in the city due to the face-off between the Bears and the Pack. It didn't turn out well for Bears fans.
What did turn out well was Never Not Funny, live at the Congress Theater. The show was hilarious as usual, Daver sang the theme and the crew sang along at the end. As an added bonus, I had the pleasure of meeting the crew. What a classy group of gentlemen.
Well, it's back to work for me. Next time I'll be sure to remember to take more than two days off. Maybe.

Life at level 30 is pretty cool so far. The alerts were my favorite part of the game as I was leveling, and now I get to do them full-time and get marks to buy awesome armor with. Yay! The queues for them seem to be very fast now as well.
The HIVE Base duo is hard when your partner is stupid though. Knockback and stun up the ass in there. Putting dudes inside a psychic hamster ball and bowling them into their pals is fun. But yeah, you fuckers in the Shack league need to hit 30 already. I don't like rolling the dice on PUGs and wasting an hour watching them commit suicide.
PSA: Don't respec. Apparently it eats a skill point each time, so you might want to wait on a fix.

Looking for some good PS3 games with local multiplayer.
Here's the catch though, my girlfriend is intimidated by the PS3 controller and doesn't want anything too complicated. We downloaded some kind of trivia game from PSN and she likes that but the questions are too easy.
Is that Lara Croft game friendly to gaming noobs? Anything else you would recommend to non-gamers?

I really want to live in this phone integrated NFC future, especially if I can put multiple cards on there and choose which via the NFC app.

Below is a video that required me to watch Kevin Smith: Too Fat For 40 twice and then took me 7 hours to edit. It is a collection of every time Kevin Smith says “and sh*t†over the course of the two hour lecture. No clips have been repeated, and, in fact, some have not even been included. Enjoy/try not to shoot yourself in the face.

Do you chaps have an opinion on the game? Is $50 too much? I already have something like 26 hours put into the game, which is a huge rarity for me. That's a pretty decent dollar value so far (and it'll only improve) if I do say so myself.

I just replaced her video card as the old one fried itself after the cooling fan fell off the heatsink. So replaced the video card with an Nvidia GT220.
Computer Specs:
Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz
4GB Ram
Nvidia GT220 512MB
Firefox 4.0 Beta 9
Windows 7 64bit

"All games are buggy, some more so than others. Have you tried Fallout: New Vegas? Buggiest game ever. I suppose this helps to explain why the game sold only 20 million copies instead of 25 million, and why it received only a 90 metacritic rating instead of 95 (sarcasm intended, in case you didn't pick up on it). If people don't like it, they can take it back to retail for a refund. Most bugs are patched within a reasonable time, and any serious gamer expects bugs."
Uh, yeah, Michael, go buy a $60 game at Best Buy, open it, install it, play it for 3 hours, eject the disc and put it back in its case, and then bring it back to Best Buy and ask for a refund. See how far you get with that.
And as much as people here call Jim Sterling the most foul being infecting gaming journalism since Kotaku, he has a rather good point here: http://www.destructoid.com/pachter-ps3-pc-black-ops-players-are-crybabies--192430.phtml
Pachter wrote off the complaints, saying that the upset gamers "sound like a crybaby" to him. He put responsibility on game reviewers and the consumer, saying they have all the relevant information on a game before making a purchase ... which would be true if most game reviewers weren't held to embargoes, or simply not given review copies in time. Ooooor given the Xbox 360 version, which is the only version Activision cares about.
There is a giant divide in perception of a game title pre-release and post-release. Pre-release is entirely driven by the publisher PR plan, including released media (screenshots and videos), interviews with gaming press, and review embargoes. Post-release, the game's out there, and that's when you find out what the game experience truly is, from the consumers themselves. Most publishers want you to buy the game day one, or better yet, preorder months in advance. They don't want you to base your purchase judgment on the post-release info, because more often than not, it's more negative than the pre-release hype. Publishers are trying to sweeten the deal with pre-order bonuses and multiplayer betas (though there aren't any games right now IIRC that require a pre-order to get into a multiplayer beta, I'm anticipating this happening soon).

I'm listening to Intel and will.i.am ramble on about a collaboration that is the most ill-defined clusterfuck I've ever heard. And there's no one I know who's also listening that I can make snarky comments to...

Going to put it on my home desk (once I get one). I feel like I could be sucked into collecting other Star Wars legos but I'm not sure I want to. They aren't cheap but there are some other cool ones that are tempting.

Just got the H50 in. Instructions say to point the fan towards the radiator/inside the case. I seem to remember the guys at [H]ard|OCP saying you can get better results by pointing the fan to exhaust the air instead. PC is down and in pieces so I can't pull up where they said this. What did y'all do?

One of my clients has come to me with a new problem. Basically they need to develop a training program. They need to be able to do pics, audio, video -- all your standard training fair.
Then they also need the ability to do tests and a way to keep track of those tests. A couple scenarios they talked about would be small tests that were "choose your own adventure"ish that if you get the question wrong, it takes you back to the point in the lesson where that was covered. If you get it right, you move on.
Is there any software that is just dandy with this stuff?
