Morning Discussion
by Xav de Matos, Jan 25, 2011 5:00am PSTVacation's over. I really enjoyed my time away from work, exploring some of the great spots buried within Chicago. It was a hectic time in the city due to the face-off between the Bears and the Pack. It didn't turn out well for Bears fans.
What did turn out well was Never Not Funny, live at the Congress Theater. The show was hilarious as usual, Daver sang the theme and the crew sang along at the end. As an added bonus, I had the pleasure of meeting the crew. What a classy group of gentlemen.
Well, it's back to work for me. Next time I'll be sure to remember to take more than two days off. Maybe.

Long story short, it was pretty great!
...but in its own odd and interesting way, so I intermittently wrote out my thoughts while noodling through some television and websurfing. Turned out to be a lot of thoughts. Here they are, somewhat polished, for the benefit of you wall-of-text lovers; you know who you are. (Please don't report me to reddit.)
Three parts coming up. Bear with me if the PRL kicks in.

I don't totally understand the gas mask filter things. I notice the breathing getting heavier and heavier, but is there any other cue for knowing exactly when you should replace the filter? So far I have just let it run down completely until the game replaces the filter for me. Also, when you pick up filters, you'll get something like a +5 adding to your total. Let's say you had 11 before, so now you have +5 = 16. Does that mean you have 16 filters, or you have 16 minutes of filter time? And how long does a filter last before it gets used up?
Was it ever worth it to spend military grade ammo on weapons? So far I have found everything I need from scavenging and picking them off dead bodies. Another thing about weapons, I always want to pick up new weapons that I haven't come across before, but it always means I have to let go of something I already have. What weapons did you find yourself sticking to?
At the beginning, I thought I was going to hate the sneaking parts because of the lack of quicksave and reliance on checkpoints. Sure enough I've had to replay certain stealth sections many times (10+), but at the same time I've found it very rewarding when I carve out the right path/kill the right guards. So far, so good, but the one major x-factor that could ruin some of these sequences down the road is that sometimes I think the guards notice me or become alerted completely randomly. For instance, I sometimes hear guards yelling "what was that? oh it was just a rat" when I am crouched perfectly still in the dark, or sometimes they jump up and start looking for me, again when I am sitting still.
Thanks for sharing your review and this line sums it up perfectly -- "Its hook is simply a fascination for being in its world."
