Indie developer Blendo Games released its zombie apocalypse strategy game/historical recreation Atom Zombie Smasher this morning as promised, priced at $15. You can download a demo from FileShack for Windows, Mac and Linux.

Set during the infamous Neuvos Aires zombie holocaust of the 60s, Atom Zombie Smasher charges players with rescuing civilians from cities before they're bitten and become part of the problem. As the campaign progresses, you'll receive new units and abilities--from snipers and land mines to artillery and orbital nukes--to lure, redirect and outright obliterate the walking dead. Oh, and there's local co-op for up to three players.

As in Blendo's Flotilla, the campaign is generated procedurally so each play-through is different. Modding is also supported, so you can shake things up yourself.

If you can't download the demo just yet, take another peek at the trailer below.

What kind of cut does Steam take and why would you rather give that money to Valve instead of to an indie dev who makes good games?

yes. yes, i would. steam is ridiculously convenient, and i am completely spoiled by it. got a new machine a few months ago and had to re-install my collection of games, and the experience of hunting down installers (or disks in the case of non-digital purchases), patches, serial keys, etc for my non-steam games versus the sheer simplicity of getting my steam collection re-installed convinced me to only buy from steam except in cases where steam is not and likely never will be an option. if theres even an inkling of a chance of a game ever coming to steam... im waiting on steam.

You know, I think this looks cool too, and Alice has been giving it praise this morning in Campfire. But I see $15 and it gives me pause. I know it's tough out there, and indie or otherwise you've gotta earn a living, but while I might have just gone and gotten it at $10, $15 just strikes me a little high.
